REQUIREMENTS
Requirements/Specification for Medical Journalism Internship Programme.
- Applicants must have obtained a degree or diploma or certificate or are enrolled in Journalism or any Medical Science Program.
- Applicants with health sector or journalism experience is an added advantage
- Ability to use Microsoft 365 package
- Good oral and especially written communications skills
- Have an idea about print and online publishing or otherwise willing to undergo training for such purpose.
- Applicant must be passionate about Medical Journalism
- Applicants must be willing to learn and commit to the standards set forth by the Medical Journalists Association-Ghana (MJA-Ghana) and the World Federation of Science Journalists (WFSJ) for medical journalism.
- Highly organised, detail-oriented and able to manage time
- Applicant must be ready and able to commit about 25hours/week
- Interest in analysing policies in the health or medical field.
- Positive attitude and an ability to work well both in groups or diverse group of individuals and individuals.
- Ability to work well under pressure and with shifting deadlines and priorities
- Ability to handle multiple assignments in a timely manner
- Ability to analyse data and make sound, logical conclusions or be willing to be trained for such purpose.
INTERNSHIP OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of the internship program, interns will be mentored hence expected to:
- Have acquired good writing and scientific data management skills
- Have developed good analytical and appraisal skills
- Be able to write well researched journalistic work
- Be familiar with medical journalistic work and health reporting.
- Have developed experience working as a medical journalist and independently managing an online news portal.
- Gain membership with the Medical Journalist Association of Ghana and the World Federation of Science Journalists.
WHAT IS EXPECTED OF YOU AS AN INTERN
i. Candidates selected for the internship will be expected to work at least 20hours per week usually remotely. He/she should be able to report, write or edit at the level expected of someone in his or her professional job and work with editors.
ii. You will be required to submit at least 5-10 journalists’ works or stories each of 1000 words or more per week.
iii. You will be expected to be available for scheduled training including data management protocols and software usage.
iv. Expected to work diligently, to make and submit brief weekly or monthly reports on your work progress as well as to periodically meet with your assigned supervisors.
INTERNSHIP DURATION:
Four (4) months.
