The promotion and sale of tobacco products are prohibited in the Qatar 2022 World Cup. Tobacco products include cigarettes, bidis, kreteks, etc. This was revealed by the Qatari Ministry of Public Health during an online program organized by the World Health Organization dubbed ‘Sports and Tobacco Don’t Mix’ attended by Senior Health and Science Reporter for medhealth.info, Mr. Ativor.
Dr. Kholoud al-Mutawa, Senior Consultant and Lead of the Department of Non-Communicable Diseases at the Ministry of Public Health in Qatar, who made this revelation also stated that inspection officers shall be deployed to monitor and oversee the implementation of this and other tobacco-Free policies during the World Cup.
Dr. Kholoud, answering a question from the WHO about the key activities around tobacco control by her ministry during the World Cup, said: “actually it’s under two main concepts, the first one is raising awareness about tobacco health hazards, promoting healthy lifestyle. …the second concept is overseeing and monitoring tobacco-free policies. … of course, we’re implementing the most important policy which is prohibiting the provision of sale of any kind of tobacco during the FIFA world cup. …the ministry of public health is responsible for implementing, with the sustainability department of FIFA. In the implementation of the tobacco-free policies in the tournament, we assigned inspectors from the ministry of public health. They need to monitor, oversee and implement the tobacco-free policy in the tournament. As well as trying to prevent any kind of advertisement and promotion of any kind of tobacco products during the FIFA world cup”.
The Head of Sustainability at FIFA, Federico Addiechi, who corroborated this statement indicated that this is in line with FIFA’s long-held internal anti-tobacco policies, pointing out the fact that FIFA decided since 1986 to ban the advertisement and sale of tobacco products as sponsors.
According to the WHO, over 8.2 million people die every year from using tobacco products. This includes 7 million direct smokers and 1.2 million secondary smokers.
Other tobacco risk awareness initiatives in the World Cup include audio-visual communications to be distributed through traditional media, digital social media channels as well as on screens inside the stadia. There would also be signages demarcating smoking-free areas inside every stadium

Thanks for your posting on this blog. From my own personal experience, there are occassions when softening upward a photograph could possibly provide the digital photographer with a bit of an artistic flare. Often however, the soft cloud isn’t just what exactly you had in mind and can often times spoil an otherwise good picture, especially if you anticipate enlarging that.
